Something we love about visiting towns and businesses across the country is learning about their rich, unique history. Arth’s Fashion Centre in Westlock, Alberta is one of those places, with a history that dates back 70 years.

“My grandfather Frank started the business in 1952 as a partner,” says current owner Todd Arth, “They were partners until 1968 when my father took over and continued to grow it.” Arth’s Fashion Centre offers clothing and accessories from local and international brands and has been welcoming guests of all ages and generations.

Westlock is a small town of about 5,000 people. Founded in 1913 and located an hour’s drive from Edmonton, it’s an agricultural and business town that lies north on the continental divide between the Athabasca and North Saskatchewan river basins.

Pay a visit to the town and you’ll discover many local spots that have been around for decades. Drop by Apollo Pizza—a town favourite that has been around since the 70s, or stay at the Westlock Inn to enjoy their hospitality and delicious dining options.

Todd shares that Westlock is also a great place for families, with a recreation centre, plenty of parks and open spaces for friends and family to gather, and the beautiful Long Island Lake, perfect for camping and fishing.

If you’re visiting in the summer, don’t miss their annual agricultural fair in August where bands and musicians play for the crowds and families can enjoy games and activities.

“This year, we’re actually having Westlock’s first-ever Elvis Festival!” says Todd.

Arth’s Fashion Centre’s customers are young and old alike. Todd has been seeing plenty of regulars; young people who grew up, left town and came back with children of their own, seeking the comfort of Westlock’s small-town atmosphere.

Since the business was built in the 1950s, the building where Arth’s Fashion Centre is located has a history of its own and was originally a Dry Goods store.

“We’ve been doing renovations and it’s amazing what you find in the rafters of this old building,” says Todd, “We once found an old grocery store sign from decades ago!”

We’re so proud to have Northbound Supply Co. be a part of this business and its truly Canadian, entrepreneurial spirit.

“Lots of our customers love Northbound Supply Co. With so many lakes and campers in the area, the brand is just a great fit and there is so much choice available!”
